Fruits in my fruit bowl tend to rot into a mulchy mess after a couple of weeks. Fruits that are chilled in permanent Siberian ice fare rather better. After more than 30,000 years, and some care from Russian scientists, some ancient fruits have produced this delicate white flower.

Zombie plants! I don't know why this gives me the creeps.

It's actually cool, and with the visible differences in this ancestor plant to its modern counterpart... there can be some neat studies regarding the genetic differences. Not only could they compare the DNA of the two plants, they will be able to measure the genetic variability and put it as a function of time. I suppose they could also try mixing the ancestor plant to its modern day version and seeing if speciation has occurred - though I highly doubt it.

All in all... even though its in a short time scale, it's still a fun discovery and tool for evolutionary study.
